Many herb and lavender farms distil right next to the field. A field steam distillation unit lets the crop go from the cutter to the still within hours, which keeps the oil fresh and saves transport. These photos show units that Dünder Makine has installed outdoors at farms.
Built for outdoor work
Field units stand on a steel frame with a loading platform. The still, condenser and Florentine separator are mounted together, so the farm only needs water, a heat source and a level base.

Wood-fired and hoist-loaded units
Where there is no steam boiler, a wood-fired unit produces its own steam. For larger batches, an overhead hoist lifts the basket in and out of the still and shortens the time between batches.
