Dünder Makine: Quality, Speed & Trust

Industrial Solvent
Extraction Systems

Solvent extraction systems for producing concrete and botanical extracts from rose, jasmine, lavender and other aromatic plants. We offer turbo, rotary and static basket extractors from 100 to 5,000 litres, and every line also includes vacuum solvent recovery.

SOLVENT EXTRACTION TECHNOLOGY

What Are Solvent Extraction Systems?

Solvent extraction systems dissolve the aromatic and active compounds of a plant into a food-grade solvent at low temperature, then remove the solvent under vacuum to leave a concentrated extract. For example, for flowers such as Rosa damascena and jasmine, the product is a concrete: the waxy aromatic extract that producers later refine with alcohol into an absolute. Because the process runs under vacuum at low temperature, it preserves the natural scent, colour and character of the plant better than heat-based methods.

In addition, Dünder Makine builds complete solvent extraction systems in AISI 304/316 stainless steel, from compact 100 litre units to 5,000 litre industrial lines.

Turbo, Rotary or Static Basket: Which Solvent Extraction Systems Fit Your Production?

All three solvent extraction systems separate the target compounds from the raw material with a solvent. However, they differ in how they bring the solvent and plant material into contact, so this changes extraction time, yield, solvent use and investment cost.

EKS-T turbo extraction line: drag to rotate the 3D model

EKS-T Series: Turbo Solvent Extraction Systems

Turbo extraction speeds up the process with high-speed mixing. As a result, it gives the shortest extraction time and the highest efficiency with low solvent consumption, which makes it a strong choice for essential oil, cosmetic and pharmaceutical producers who want fast, high-yield batches.

EKS-Tm Series: Mini Turbo Extraction Units

The mini turbo series brings turbo extraction to a compact size for pilot production, small producers and research. At the same time, high-speed mixing keeps extraction time short and solvent consumption low, with its own evaporator for solvent recovery.

EKS-R rotary extraction line: drag to rotate the 3D model

EKS-R Series: Rotary Solvent Extraction Systems

Rotary extraction increases the contact between raw material and solvent through the rotation of the extractor drum. Therefore, it offers high yield and effective extraction for medium and large-scale production of concrete, essential oils and herbal extracts.

EKS-S Series: Static Basket Solvent Extraction Systems

In static extraction, the operator places the plant material on baskets or sieves inside the extractor and leaves it to stand in the solvent, so the aromatic compounds dissolve slowly and gently. In addition, low energy consumption, simple operation, easy maintenance and low investment cost make it a reliable choice for essential oil, cosmetic and pharmaceutical producers.

PRODUCTION PROCESS

How Solvent Extraction Systems Work, Step by Step

Every Dünder Makine extraction line follows the same seven stages, from fresh plant material to finished concrete:

  1. Raw material preparation: first, the operator loads flowers or plant material into the extractor.
  2. Mixing with solvent: the solvent dissolves the aromatic compounds at low temperature.
  3. Settling: the solution rests so that solid particles separate.
  4. Filtration: then a stainless steel filter removes plant residue.
  5. Secondary vacuum filtration: next, a vacuum filter removes the fine particles.
  6. Intermediate solvent removal: after that, the distiller recovers most of the solvent for reuse.
  7. Evaporation: finally, the vacuum evaporator removes the remaining solvent at low temperature, leaving the concrete.

Afterwards, you can refine the concrete into an absolute in our absolute production systems.

EVP Vacuum Evaporators for Solvent Recovery

The evaporator removes the solvent from the extract under controlled temperature and vacuum. As the heated liquid reaches its boiling point, the solvent evaporates and the condenser recovers it for reuse, while the concentrated extract stays behind. Moreover, vacuum operation keeps temperatures low to protect heat-sensitive aroma compounds.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Frequently Asked Questions About Solvent Extraction Systems

Turbo extraction uses high-speed mixing and gives the shortest extraction time, highest efficiency and lowest solvent use. In contrast, rotary extraction mixes solvent and plant material in a rotating drum and suits medium to large-scale production. Finally, static basket extraction keeps the plant material on sieves in constant solvent contact; it is slower but has the lowest investment cost and the easiest maintenance.

A concrete is the waxy aromatic extract obtained from flowers by solvent extraction. To make an absolute, producers dissolve it in alcohol, cool and filter it to remove the waxes, and then evaporate the alcohol under vacuum. As a result, only the absolute remains. See our absolute production systems for this second stage.

From 100 litres (EKS-Tm 100 mini turbo) up to 5,000 litres (EKS-T 5000 turbo and EKS-S 500 static). In addition, rotary EKS-R models come in 2,500 and 4,000 litres.

First, the distiller recovers most of the solvent. Then an EVP vacuum evaporator (250, 300 or 600 litres) recovers the rest at low temperature. As a result, you can reuse the recovered solvent and lower your operating costs.

Rose, jasmine, tuberose, lavender, chamomile, neroli, violet leaf and many herbs. In particular, delicate flowers whose aroma distillation would damage are typical raw materials for solvent extraction.

We make all extractors from AISI 304 or AISI 316 stainless steel, and they operate at 0.5 to 1 bar, with direct or indirect steam heating and tubular or serpentine cooling.
